چکیده

Background Diffuse myocardial fibrosis is associated with myocardial infarction [1], heart failure [2] and dilated cardiomyopathy [3]. Conventional T1-weighted late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) imaging highlights focal scaring in contrast to remote reference tissue, but it cannot detect global changes in T1 associated with diffuse fibrosis. Quantitative T1 imaging permits assessment of diffuse fibrosis by eliminating the use of reference tissue, but the dependence of the derived partition coefficient (lambda) on the time post-contrast injection (tpost) is not well established.

Myocardial T1 mapping and determination of partition coefficients at 3 tesla: comparison between gadobenate dimeglumine and gadofosveset trisodium

Objective To compare an albumin-bound gadolinium chelate (gadofosveset trisodium) and an extracellular contrast agent (gadobenate dimeglumine), in terms of their effects on myocardial longitudinal (T1) relaxation time and partition coefficient. Materials and Methods Study subjects underwent two imaging sessions for T1 mapping at 3 tesla with a modified look-locker inversion recovery (MOLLI) p...

Inter-subject variation in partition coefficient is largely due to variation in LGE blood T1

Background MRI is the only non-invasive modality capable of quantifying diffuse cardiac fibrosis using late gadolinium enhanced (LGE) cardiac T1 mapping. This pulse sequence measures LGE cardiac T1, which directly correlates with the amount of extracellular contrast agent occupying the expanded extracellular matrix containing the interstitial fibrosis, and obviates the need for a reference norm...

Association of increased extracellular volume expansion with elevated left ventricular end diastolic pressure in patients with nonischemic cardiomyopathy

Methods All subjects were prospectively recruited to undergo cardiac MRI in a 1.5 T scanner. Modified Look-Locker Inversion recovery sequence was used with motion correction included in the post processing algorithm. Pre-contrast and post contrast (20 minutes after gadolinium injection at 0.15 mmol/kg) T1 maps of the blood pool and myocardium were assessed in basal, mid and apical segments of t...

Intersite reproducibility of myocardial assessment of T1 and partition coefficient on phantom and one volunteer at 1.5T and 3.0T

Background Myocardial extracellular volume is proportionate to partition coefficient (l). l can be measured by assessing the T1 relaxation time before and after injection of gadolinium. T1 and l might become clinically relevant parameters for prognostic assessment. The goal of that study is to assess the intersite reproducibility of T1 assessment and partition coefficient on phantom and on one ...

Sample size calculation for clinical trials using cardiac magnetic resonance partition coefficient and extracellular volume fraction for the assessment of diffuse myocardial fibrosis

Methods A modified Look-Locker with inversion recovery (MOLLI) sequence was used to determine myocardial T1 values pre-, and 12 and 25 min post-administration of a gadolinium-based contrast agent at 3 Tesla. For 24 healthy subjects (8 men; 29±6 years), two separate scans were obtained a) with a bolus of 0.15 mmol/kg of gadopentate dimeglumine and b) 0.1 mmol/kg of gadobenate dimeglumine, respec...
